Missy Elliott - Under Construction

$39.99

Under Construction is the 4th album from Missy Elliott. It was released in November of 2002. Under Construction was both commercially and critically successful, and further cemented Missy's reputation as an artist that was super-creative and also made hit records. Missy has won 4 Grammys and has been nominated 22 times. She's a writer, producer and performer of the highest caliber who managed to be unique, weird, catchy-as-hell, sexy and hella popular. She is also the first female rap artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Under Construction features great lyrics and futuristic production (primarily care of longtime collaborator Timbaland). Yet despite the new sounds and techniques Missy & Timbo were using, the music often references old-school hip-hop and maintains a sonic connection to what came before. It's fun and raunchy and real. Missy manages to make great hip-hop that's artistic yet fully club-ready. There's great cameos and features, including Beyonce, Jay-Z, Ludacris, and Method Man, but Missy is 100% the star. Rapping, singing, and generally running this 56 minute show with the perfect blend of swagger and playfulness. It may be called 'Under Construction' (and Missy addresses the title head-on in the album's intro), but this is the work of a fully formed artist at their peak.
