Sade - Love Deluxe

$37.99

Sade Adu is an iconic musician who has been active for 40 years. Sade (and her band of the same name) released their first LP, 'Diamond Life' in 1984. 'Diamond Life' was a smash success, catapulting the band to international stardom. There are 6 Sade studio LPs, and all are incredible. The first 4 LPs came out within an 8 year period, and her career has had a series of long hiatuses since the early 90s.

It was difficult to choose only 2 of her albums, but 'Stronger Than Pride' and 'Love Deluxe' really stand out in a spotless catalog. 'Stronger Than Pride' was released in 1988 and featured several popular singles. The LP flows beautifully and manages to feel both simultaneously vulnerable and detached. There's a resignation to the sadness and heartbreak that feels like strength. Sade herself wrote the lyrics, co-wrote the music, and handled production and arranging. It's a bitter-sweet master-piece.

1992 saw the release of 'Love Deluxe'. Considered by many to be her finest work, 'Love Deluxe' continues the cool yet emotional balancing act she and the band perfected. The production is sparser, sometimes jazzier, and you can sense the deliberate choices made for each song and the loving intention. Sonically gorgeous, 'Love Deluxe' feels luxurious, a bit otherworldly, but inviting and familiar.

If you're not familiar with the other Sade LPs, I strongly suggest spending time with all of them. Her long career is quality over quantity, and these two featured tonight are the best of the best.
